A DOUBLE PORTION OF JOY
Stella Dhinakaran
Dearly beloved,
The Lord will turn your sorrow into joy.
In the Bible, we read about a pious man called Job. Even in the time of adversity, he held on to the Lord firmly. We read in Isaiah 26:3, You (God) will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. According to this verse, the Lord gave Job the peace which the world can never give (John 14:27).
In the Bible, we read that our forefather Abraham had no offspring. As per Gods promise, a son was given to him when he was hundred years old. But there was a trial which he had to face, and in that situation, he was even prepared to offer his only son Isaac as a sacrifice since he believed that God was able to raise him up even from the dead.
In the year 1990, before taking my husband Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran to the operation theatre for a heart surgery, the doctors gave us a few minutes to go and see him. As my son and I entered the room, we were deeply worried not knowing what to say. Yet we offered a heart-rending prayer and entrusted him into the hands of the Lord.
The moment we stepped out, he was wheeled into the operation theatre. My son wept bitterly saying, Lord, why these series of sufferings for us alone? Why so much of suffering in my fathers body? Seeing our tears, the Lord gave His servant a new heart. He protected him and led him amazingly till his death.
Apostle Paul says,
We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). The Lord is able to remove your sorrow and give you perfect joy.
We also read about a young man called Joseph in the Bible. Forsaken by his own brothers, he went through the path of tears for nearly 13 years. In the end, the Lord removed all his sufferings, honored him before them and lifted him up. After his fathers death, he told them, You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives (Genesis 50:20).
The Lord will be with you, remove all the evil things that come against you and work everything for your own good. He will wipe away all your tears and enable you to enjoy a double portion of joy instead of your shame (Isaiah 61:7).
Prayer:
Loving Lord Jesus,
I hold on to You in the time of my pain and trust in Your great goodness. Please remove my problems, honor me before everyone and lift me up. Wipe away my tears and grant me a double portion of joy. Fill my heart with Your matchless peace.
In Your matchless name I pray,
Amen.
