Are you being Slandered?
Sis. Evangeline Paul Dhinakaran
Dear friend, David says in Psalm 62:6, “Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”
Here, David was being slandered by his enemies, and their lies grew increasingly in public. He became restless as they were continuously cursing him. In II Samuel 16:5-8, a man named Shimei yelled curses at David, calling him a worthless man and falsely accusing him of being responsible for the death of King Saul because of which the Lord had taken away the Kingdom from him and had given it to his son, Absalom. Shimei continued to follow David, throwing stones and dirt at him and cursing him in front of his mighty men. In Psalm 62:3&4, David says, “How long do you attack a man? They take delight in lies.”
When it feels like the whole world is against you, it can be easy to look to yourself or others for help. But in this situation, David turned to God and prayed for deliverance. Even in his time of shame, he found hope in God, saying in verse 5 of Psalm 62, “Rest in God alone, my soul. My hope comes from Him.” He recognised that God was his rock, salvation, fortress, and defence, and he would not be shaken.
During our times of shame, we can only run to God. Only He can rescue us from the storms of life. Jesus understands our pain, having already suffered public shame for us. So, rest in the arms of Jesus, and He will surround you like a rock. Tell Him that He is your rock, your strength, your salvation, and your fortress. He will replace your shame with honour in double portion. People may take pleasure in hurting you with lies; as David says, "They delight in lies." But know that the devil is a liar. He is the father of all lies. So, don't believe all the lies that have been thrown upon you. Just look to Jesus, for He is your lighthouse in the midst of your storm. Remember David's words and find peace and rest in God alone. May the Lord rescue you from all the lies and curses hurled upon you and be a fortress around you.
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, despite the shame and hate that I am going through, I come to You in faith that You will never cast away anyone who comes to You. You have always been my rock and fortress in times of trouble. There are many who rise up against me, wanting to see me suffer, but You, Lord, are my song and salvation. You will prepare a table before my enemies and crown my head with honour and blessings. I pray that my soul will always find rest and peace in Your presence, for I know that You will rescue me from every lie and curse spoken against me and make me stand on a firm foundation. I shall not be shaken. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
